Darkness

Darkness is the primary difficulty modifier in 20 Minutes Till Dawn.

Each Darkness level is unlocked by completing the previous Darkness level in Standard Mode.

Each Darkness level also retains all of the previous Darkness levels' effects (e.g. at Darkness 2, small enemies will spawn 25% more often and have 25% more HP).

There are 16 levels of darkness, 0 to 15:

Darkness Description
0 Survive the night to unlock greater challenges.
1 Small enemies spawn 25% more often.
2 Small enemies have 25% more HP.
3 Elites have 50% more HP.
4 Bosses have 50% more HP.
5 Elites deal double damage.
6 Bosses deal double damage.
7 Small enemies move 15% faster.
8 Elites move 25% faster.
9 Reduce upgrade choices by 1.
10 Small enemies deal double damage in the last 5 minutes.
11 Experience gain is reduced by 15%.
12 Small enemies have an additional 50% more HP (+75% in total).
13 Elites have an additional 75% more HP (+125% in total).
14 Bosses have an additional 100% more HP (+150% in total).
15 Bosses attack 80% more often.

After surviving Standard Mode, an icon and number are shown below the relevant character and weapon in the menus. The number shows the highest Darkness level the player has completed with that character or weapon. The icon is red if this number is 15 (the highest Darkness level).
